The Rotavirus Vaccine Immunization Schedule

The rotavirus vaccine is given at 6 weeks, 10 weeks and 14 weeks. The vaccine is given as five(5) drops into the mouth. The cheeks are gently squeezed and a dropper puts the vaccine on the tongue.

The rotavirus vaccine is a live attenuated vaccine and provides lifelong immunity for children reducing the risk of childhood diarrhoea.

Your baby may develop mild self-limiting diarrhoea after the vaccination. It does not need treatment.

Rotaviral Diarrhoea

The rotavirus causes serious watery diarrhoea in babies and young people. The child passes so much stool that s/he becomes very weak and very sick and will need hospital resuscitation. Rotavirus is the commonest viral cause of diarrhoea in Ghana. The rotavirus vaccination prevents children especially babies from getting sick with diarrhoea and prevents death. The three doses of the rotavirus vaccine are enough to provide immunity for your baby.
